Applied Materials Earth Day Expo - Vernal Pond Exhibit  4-20-2018

Applied Materials is really reaching out to educate employees and improve the earth. This Earth Day Expo was a great event. They had a number of diverse booths showcasing things from our critters to composting to recycled plastic kitchenware. We showed off our Vernal Pond Exhibit to a very large crowd. Lots of employees came by the booth and we had an exceptional variety of animals in our display to show them. Our vernal pond critters included a Gray tree frog, Wood frog, Spring peeper, and a big fat toad. We also brought Spotted turtles, Fairy shrimp, Spotted salamanders along with Spotted salamander and Wood frog egg masses. We had a bunch of native snakes known to haunt vernal pools on display and another half dozen that took turns being held -- between naps. We had a great time teaching our visitors about vernal pond wildlife and habitat and how to appreciate and hold our snakes. The facility has a nice vernal pond right there on site for employees to explore.

Vernal Pond Friends!

American toad.
A face only a mother could love? He is so cute!

Spotted salamander. Plus a little baby. The spots are unique to each salamander and you can actually identify them by their spots.

Spotted turtle. This turtle is quite small measuring approximately 5 inches in length when fully grown.

Gray tree frog
The sticky fingers and toes are the key  to identifying these frogs.

Just a speck like Alfred Hitchcock?
He has that same sweet harmless look.
Especially holding one of our snakes.
